The Art of Marbling
The art of marbling is drawing figures on water and causing to embrace and infuse infinite color variations. This art is reflecting the beauties in the sky appearing at daybreak or sunset time, above he clouds and at the horizon, that are instantly changing and disappearing on the earth, and after quecnhing the reflections thirst for the green of trees and the color of soil, to eternalize this panorama on paper. Ebru (Marbling) means cloduy, wavy like moire in Persians "ebr", and Cagatay Turkish "ebre". It is believed to have originated from the Central Asian Turks in the 15th century. It came to Anatolia over the Silk road and produced its most beautiful examples here. Marbling were used on book pages together with gilding and calligraphy, on the edges of numbering, on book bindings, in the spaces between scripts in the Ottoman times for centuries, but today it is conceived of and exhibited as an independent art.
